Danio's we have Bred
Tetra's we have Bred
The way we breed Danio's and Tetra's
Separate the males from the females preferably different tanks or you can put a solid divider in there tank so they may see each other but cannot spawn.
Feed them up on mostly live food / frozen will do if you don't have live.
Once the females look ready to burst with eggs get a spawning tank ready normally a week or two.
We spawn ours in a 1ft tank with under gravel plates covering the bottom make sure these are held in place with either a small rock or a small piece of glass as you don't want the fish activity to move or float them.
Make sure that the fish wont be able to get under these as if one is not interested in breeding and it can get under the plates it will have a lovely feed up on eggs.
You do not need any filters or air rock in this tank.
Use about half a tank of their own water and half fresh water
Make sure spawning tank is up to temperature
Give them one last feed in their separate tanks then place the males and females in the spawning tank.
Because they haven't seen each other for a couple of weeks they will start spawning strait away
About 24 hours later we bring our adults out and re separate them for future breeding.
Make sure before now to have a well cultured sponge filter in one of your tanks once the eggs start to hatch put this filter into the tank DO NOT TURN IT ON This is their first food source.
After a couple of days post hatch you can start feeding egg layer baby food bought from a local fish shop.
at about a week and a half old they will start taking live brine shrimp .
To do water changes we use a narrow hose just a little bigger than a air line with a fine foam on the end to prevent sucking up the babies .
we only do small water changes every day or two once they are about a week old rather than run a filter.
From the thousands that hatch you normal get about 10% survival as they
are so hard to keep alive the first 2 weeks that is why they lay so may
eggs.
