Typical Curious Vallhund Pups

Typical Curious Vallhund Pups
Graphic Illustration of how a litter can have puppies with full tails or no tail at all. Drammericans Echo at left.

The most unusual feature of the breed is its tail or sometimes lack of a tail. As many as half the pups in a litter can be born naturally tailless, or with a small stump.

The Vallhund, being a Spitz, can also have a full tail curling up over its back.

Docking has been traditional with the Vallhund but is now banned in Sweden, and as the only New Zealand breeders at present, it seemed like a good time to step off the docking bandwagon and leave our puppies "Au Natural".

With our new stud dog Drammericans Echo being naturally tailless, we can expect a mix of tail types in future litters.
