The Valkrista Vallhunds take time out for a much needed
drink during a romp in the forest.
Vallhunds are loving
and lovable, people orientated, adaptable, hardy, healthy and easy-care
little dogs.
Living as we do close
to Mangawhai's beach and forest, ours usually spend time each week having
a ball, chasing rabbits, etc. Great exercise for us all! At home they like
to chase a ball or watch the humans as they work.
They are reputed to be
good vermin hunters and can capture possums. They have no doggy odour,
make good watchdogs, and are very therapeutic.
Their short coat is
easy-care. They are a no nonsense little canine, an equally excellent
companion for a man, a woman or a family.
They are smart
and need firm handling, but respond well to discipline and are very
trainable.
One particular bitch
in the UK is famed for her skill at retrieving Grouse and is flown up to
Scotland annually for the shooting season!
Their herding genes
are still intact and they could make a good all-round working dog/adored
family pet on a small farm.
The breed has no known
major genetic health problems.
