My great-great grandfather John Waterson, The Elder 1805 - 31 August 1875 Married Mary Wilkie, who died quite young. He remarried Mrs Pitt-Harvey, a widow, so her charge, Mary McDonald was brought up with his children and later on, married his son George.

George married Mary McDonald
Mary's mother died on the ship voyage from Scotland to New Zealand. Her father disembarked at Australia and returned to Scotland with his son, leaving Mary to continue on to New Zealand in the care of Mrs Mary Pitt-Harvey.

Mrs Pitt-Harvey started a school on Lambton Quay in Wellington. Later she married John Waterson, The Elder. Mary McDonald grew up with his children and later married his son, George.
