Information about demographic trends, income levels, and other useful market research data is now available on line for no cost. This is vital information for your business and HR planning. Notable highlights include: · More households have internet access—Internet is now available in 60% of all households which makes this a vital communication medium for all business. · Auckland is growing fast—Auckland region has increased in population by 12.4%. Search the website for more information on the area which your business operates in. · Auckland now has 55% of people identifying as European and 25% identifying as Asian (compared to 9% for NZ). (This excludes the 10% who nominated themselves as New Zealander). Auckland has shown an increase in people in 20-24 year age group although NZ as a whole is showing an aging population with increases in 40-65 and 65+ age groups. By 2050 the number of deaths is expected to exceed the number of births. Compares this to Australia where they will reach this point in 2030 and Japan where it is expected within the next 5 years. NZ’s Asian population is also increasing quickly—Those identifying as Asian have increased by 15% to become the 4th largest ethnic grouping in NZ. · 22.9% of NZ population was born overseas—England is the most common birthplace followed by China, India, Korea, South Africa and Fiji. · Fewer children—the trend towards people having fewer children is continuing with 2 children being most common.
