When alcohol and/or other drugs are used regularly over a prolonged period of time, a dependency may develop. If a tolerance develops or the amount of drug decreases, withdrawal symptoms can be experienced. Drug withdrawal has many variables. Everything from the type of drug, quantity of regular use, to the length of time the drug was abused, factors into how intense or mild an individual's drug withdrawal experience will be. The following are just a few of the symptoms reported by people who have experienced withdrawal symptoms from an addictive substance: Drug and alcohol withdrawal is more likely to be successful if it is done under supervision by trained professionals in liaison with the GP who are able to monitor the drug and/or alcohol withdrawal process whilst providing the ongoing support, counselling and advice which can lead towards a happy, healthy drug free life with a low likelihood of relapse. |
