Status report of weather station: Weather conditions are measured within 100 metres of the site where Captain James Cook observed a transit of the planet Mercury across the face of the Sun, at 12:09 pm on 9 November 1769. This task and a prior observation of the planet Venus from Tahiti, were priciple motives for his voyage to the South Pacific.
