James Walter Chapman-Taylor and Mary Gibson

Arrived New Zealand 1880 and was raise at Rosanagh (Farm) , Stratford. He was apprenticed to a Stratford builder and studied architecture by correspondence. he built his first house in Wellington in 1904 and although he built in Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Feilding, Marton and Wairarapa, most of his houses are in Wellington. These houses are still much sought after today. (2000) during a trip to England in 1909 he was influenced by the cottage style and construction and returned to NZ to interpret them into NZ materials and settings. He was a accomplished photographer and was a leading member of the Wellington Photographic Society for many years. jameswchaptay.jpg
