Born on board the "Halcione" position approx. South Atlantic/Southern Ocean, arriving at New Plymouth, New Zealand in 1875. Started work age 11 felling bush with his brothers in South Taranaki, NZ. Spent 12/6 (twelve shillings and six pence) of his first pay to purchase a dresser which is still in the family today. (2000) Later he went farming until in his later years he was the gardener for the Stratford hospital supplying all the vege needs. He contacted diabetes which nessitated the removal of both his legs, so becoming a patient at the hospital. While there he hand knitted numerous pairs of socks for the boys over seas during world war two.
