Hoi
Before the present day we had a famous
weapon called the hoe. It is also something to make a boat move,
just like a paddle. That was back then, but in our days the hoe is
used for kapa-haka and ceremonial purposes for example rowing a waka.

TewhaTewha
The TewhaTewha shape is like a axe.
It is a weapon. It has 3 strking places and they are called the mahunga,
pou and the koi and the tewhatewha is used for ceremonies, but in
the old days warriors used to use them. |
Taiaha
A taiaha is a weapon shaped flat at
one end and has a carved face with an arero (tongue) on the end of it.
The taiaha shape is like a spear shape. The taiaha is a long weapon
and it has 4 striking places, and it is used for ceremonies.
Before a powhiri
begins the tangata rakau (warrior) will begin with the wero or challenge.
Most tangata rakau will use the taiaha. The dangerous part of it is the
flat smooth bit on the end. If you swing the right way you hear a
whoosh and if you don’t you hear nothing.
