This is a small family legal firm in Christchurch, New Zealand with a long history in the law. Because we are small we do not specialise. As a result, we are able to bring a holistic approach to your needs, and will go that extra distance to help you
Please click on any underlined text for more information.
We do not specialise in any particular area of law, so not only can we help with you house purchase, we can also help and advise regarding your business, debt collections, family trusts, traffic or criminal prosecutions, adoptions, custody/access disputes, domestic protection matters, Wills, Estates or any other matter.
We prefer to view your overall picture as we feel it provides you with a better overall service. If your matter requires more expertise than we can offer, we call in a Barrister (i.e. an expert). This contrasts with bigger firms who have a "common law" partner and who will use his expertise. We can freely choose the best barrister for the job from all those available, without having to feel an obligation to the in-house barrister.
WILLIAM STRINGER arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1854. Soon after, his son, THOMAS WALTER STRINGER, was born. Walter was articled as a Law Clerk, and worked his way up to become a senior partner of the respected firm of Duncan Cotterill, before being appointd a judge of the (then) Supreme Court (now called the High Court)
His son, CYRIL STRINGER, was a founding partner of the firm Raymond Stringer & Donnelly, which was and still is the Crown Solicitor's firm in Christchurch.
Cyril's son, DONALD STRINGER (born 1921) followed in the family footsteps, preferring however to put up his own plaque simply as D H Stringer & Co. Although various other names have appeared from time to time, the present firm can trace its origins directly from here.
The present proprietor, DAVID STRINGER (born 1955), is one of Donald's sons.
AN EXAMPLE OF OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU: Earlier this year I was nominated as solicitor for a new client wanting to buy a property in Christchurch. He was between jobs, having been made redundant by his former employer in Auckland, so the usual lending institutions wouldn't look at him.
AT NO EXTRA COST (!!), I sourced finance through another solicitor for this client, who is now happily re-housed and getting on with his life.
