Kopua Holiday Park Sculpture

A new sculpture for the Raglan Kopua Holiday Park has been commissioned by the Raglan Kopua Holiday Park Board. Holiday Park Board chair Colin Chung says "It is extremely pleasing to see the financial surplus achieved from successfully operating the Holiday Park being able to provide an inspirational public artwork for Raglan Whaingaroa."The sculpture will be the work of a local Raglan Whaingaroa artist and inspired by Whaingaroa, with the selection process managed by the Raglan Community Arts Council. The artwork will be located on the traffic island near the entrance of the Holiday Park on Marine Parade, an area of about three square metres. The area of ground available is the grass area to the north of the concrete traffic island on the entrance road to the Holiday Park from Marine Parade. The final position will be discussed with the artist.

Expressions of interest are being sought from artists living in the Whaingaroa catchment for this exciting public art project.
Artists have until the 8th of June to send in an expression of interest to the Raglan Community Arts Council. (RCAC, PO Box 91, Raglan 3265
or email info@raglanartscentre.co.nz)

Five suitable artists will then be shortlisted by Raglan Community Arts Council and asked to develop a concept for the sculpture. They will have until the end of August to come up with their design and these will be judged in September.

The winner will receive an award of $1000, with the other four receiving awards of $250 provided they have submitted a concept.

Conceptual designs will be judged by a panel of Wanda Barker (convenor), Jean Carbon, Amanda Watson, Colin Chung, Pablo Rickard, Rob Clark, and Linda Cole.

The winning artist will be commissioned to create a sculpture at a fee of $12,000. A further sum of up to $6000 is available to cover installation and material costs.
