Te Ao Marama is from New Zealand, the first country in the world to greet the new dawn welcoming in the Year 2000. The bear is appropriately named Te Ao Marama which when tanslated from Maori, New Zealand's indigenous language, means The Beginning.
Te Ao Marama features New Zealand's native bird the kiwi along with
"2000" embroidered on one foot. It holds the New Zealand flag and is
wearing a gold coloured kiwi emblem on it's chest. It comes accompanied by
a mini kiwi character who helps to celebrate with party streamers.
Standing, Te Ao Marama is
14 1/2 inches (37cm) tall and is made from a sparse distressed mohair. It
has an inserted nose, black glass eyes, wooden cotter pin joints and is filled
with polyfibre and cotton fibre
.
