How to Prepare the Fabric For Stitching
We recommend that you:
Cut the fabric to size and allow an extra few inches on each edge.
Trim off any selvage edges.
Iron or press any creases out of the fabric.
Prepare the edges to keep them from fraying. You may wish to use a sewing machine to do a zigzag stitch or fold the edge of the cloth over and baste by hand. Or perhaps do a whipstitch by hand, to overcast the edges.
Masking tape can also be used however allow another half inch on all sides so that you can cut off the adhesive stains on the fabric when you have finished stitching. Chemicals may cause deterioration years later.
If any stitcher has some hints that they would like to share, please contact us and we may use the suggestions on this page.
