WHEN
A CARTOON IS FREE AND WHEN IT IS NOT
The main reason these cartoons have been posted is so that
people can enjoy them. Liberally interrupted, this means:
Print a hard copy and pin it to your office window, bulletin
board, fridge, or the balding spot of your bosses head.
Forward a copy of a cartoon to a friend or associate etc.
Big
assumption here I know. This doesn't mean you can whack
it on your stationery or Christmas cards. Take any bullets
or other small web-specific designs such as animated gifs
for your own personal web page. I ask that you provide a
link to my page in return.
You can, within reason, incorporate my cartoons into the
local club/work newsletter not intended for wide public
circulation or any other small, obscure, amateur, internal,
inconsequential, home/office-printed exercise invariably
produced during company time that may escape my attention
as well as that of most of the known world.
There must be no charges, commercial advertising/sponsorship,
or any other revenue-raising apart from charity work associated
with the production (cost-covering charges included in my
fee). This also applies to electronic media such as web sites.
You'll
probably be getting the idea by now….. Reviews or anything
directly promoting this site. Shameless I know, but I don't
often indulge myself. Please let me know first if you want
to use an image.
CONDITIONS
Any cartoon used must be accredited in lettering lager than
7 point. The credit must be near the image unless the cartoon
already carries a visible superimposed credit line. The
one exception is if the image is used in a webpage, in which
case…. A link to my site must be included on a web page
incorporating anything taken from this site.
A limit of two cartoons for any publication except for bullets
and other small web-specific descriptive icons which may
be reproduced multiple times. In no way do I waive any legal
rights I have to the images.
The
preceding text is merely a guideline to my attitude towards
smaller amateur publishers who voluntarily spend their time
(or their employers as is often the case) producing something
that may be of some interest to other people without anything
in return. They usually take the stuff anyway so they may
as well have a reserved blessing.
For
those who like to assume that everything is for the taking
and that the sole purpose of other people's efforts is to
freely bolster the presentation of there own little commercial
enterprise, the preceding text is in no way legally binding
and I reserve the right to ultimately determine, independent
of what has been stated here, what requires consent and
what doesn't.
What
won't escape my attention:
Using
an image of mine in a promotion for a service or product,
such as an advertisement, without my consent. Incorporating
my work into a commercial or publicly-distributed without
my consent. Modifying, renting, reselling for profit, or
creating derivative works based upon my work. Anything else
that may breach international copyright laws.
Of course this doesn't mean that the cartoons aren't available
for use in professional publications. All you need to do
is pay a small fee for non-exclusive reproduction rights
if you wish to use a cartoon in your publication.
