Orchard and Gardens

We grow a range of organic produce with an emphasis on apples and eggs but with a variety of other fruit and vegetables. To us, flavour and nutritional value are important. That is why we concentrate year round on fresh, in season fruit and vegetables that meet organic standards.

Our orchard has apples, plums, nectarines, citrus fruits, quince, pears, feijoas, nut trees, kiwifruit and many others. At least 40 types of vegetables are grown as well as many herbs. Surplus produce is sold at local markets, from our on-site shop or made into preserves, e.g. jams, jellies, chutneys, pickles, juices.

Birds, honey bees and Monarch butterflies are not forgoten. Many of the trees and shrubs are flowering. We have over 50 Kowhai trees and numerous Kakabeak shrubs. Dahlias are used as windbreaks in the orchard and vegetable garden. They flower from November to May and make a good show.

Our 24 hens range free in the orchard and produce really good eggs. They are Rex's "girls". To date they have not been found in the vegetable garden!!
