COMMEMORATING the visit to Albany, New York to meet with various legislative leaders by Dr. Yan Xin and his associates, Professor Pei Qing Yang, Charlene Loo, Henry Tan and Meilin Tan, prominent leaders in the Queens Chinese Community

WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations devoted to improving the quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and self-worth, are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and 

WHEREAS, From time to time, society calls upon these individuals and organizations to be recognized for the significance of their contributions and efforts to assist others in developing the skills necessary to be successful, productive citizens; and 

WHEREAS, Dr. Yan Xin has become a legendary figure among contemporary Chinese Qigong masters, because of his extraordinary Qigong power, his profound knowledge of Chinese medicine, his advanced martial arts skills, and his persistent effort to introduce Qigong to modern scientific researchers;and

WHEREAS, Dr. Yan Xin was born in 1950 in a small village in Sichuan province, China; at the age of four, he was chosen by a Qigong master with whom he began a systematic training; he subsequently received comprehensive instruction from nearly 30 Advanced Traditional Qigong masters; and 

WHEREAS, After excelling at a rigorous course of study in Western medicine, he attended and graduated with highest honors from Chengdu Institute of Traditional Chinese medicine; he was a physician for a number of years at the Chongqing Research Institute of Traditional Chinese medicine where he combined Qigong treatment with standard medical therapies; his medical practice was extremely successful and he became known as "The Wonder Doctor"; and 

WHEREAS, He started public Qigong promotion in 1983 in China and has been conducting unprecedented scientific Qigong studies since 1986; he came to the United States in 1990 and has lectured in over one hundred universities and research institutes; and 

WHEREAS, The year 1986 was the turning point in the history of contemporary Chinese Qigong, when Dr. Yan Xin completed a series of Qigong experiments, in collaboration with scientists from such prestigious Chinese research institutes as Qinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences; included in the study are Qigong effects in the fields of physics at both atomic and nuclear levels, chemistry, biology and genetic engineering, astronomy, geology and agriculture;and

WHEREAS, The results of this research drew attention from many of the nation's most well-known scientists including Professor Zhao Zhongyao and Professor Bei Shizhang, fellows of the Chinese Academy of Science who are widely regarded as the most respected scholars in the fields of nuclear physics and biology, and Professor Qian Xuesen, then the Chairman of the National Society of Science and Technology; this study led Professor Qian to conclude that Dr. Yan Xin's research on Qigong is a "new scientific discovery and the prelude to scientific revolution";and

WHEREAS, In the summer of 1990, Dr. Yan Xin was invited to present his research results at an international conference on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine at the University of California at Berkeley; he has since visited over one hundred universities and research institutes throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and France, where he has given Qigong lectures and discussed Qigong research with many international scientists; and 

WHEREAS, In recognition of his contributions to the American people, he has received numerous awards, including honorary citizenship in the State of California, and was warmly received as a guest in the White House by President and Mrs. Bush, who praised him as "the Sage of our time"; and 

WHEREAS, Dr. Yan Xin remains a modest and gentle person; he constantly emphasizes the importance of ethical values, and the value of loving for others, encourages respect for the elderly and care for the young and all those in need; he urges us all to strive to improve the health of mankind, as well as the ecological balance of the universe; now, therefore, be it 

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the visit to Albany, New York to meet with various legislative leaders by Dr. Yan Xin and his associates, Professor Pei Qing Yang, Charlene Loo, Henry Tan and Meilin Tan, prominent leaders in the Queens Chinese Community; and be it further 

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Dr. Yan Xin, Professor Pei Qing Yang, Charlene Loo, Henry Tan and Meilin Tan.
