Hanna Stud was established in 1994,in the Manawatu, in an area South of Palmerston North, originally breeding mainly partbred Spanish horses. Today, after having re-located first to the Waikato and then, more recently to Waiuku, just South of Auckland, we are specialising in Pure Spanish Horses (_Caballos de Pura Raza Espanola – PRE)

The decision to concentrate on PRE horses for our own breeding programme was reached during the six years spent in the Waikato, where our stud further established its purebred breeding programme, helped by the ideal climate and soil conditions prevalent in this area.

Since May 2003, Hanna Stud is located in South Auckland, in the Franklin District just outside Waiuku on the way to Karaka. As in the Waikato, so in Franklin, our stud is situated close to well known Thoroughbred breeding farms, on soils with the right composition to ensure high quality pasture to rear well grown healthy young equines.
In its new location, Hanna Stud is only 40 minutes drive from the Auckland International Airport and 20 minutes drive from the world renown NZ National Thoroughbred Sales Complex at Karaka.

Our stud comprises 30 acres of fertile pasture and has been developed to provide a safe environment for horses, including a majority of post and rail horse fencing, broodmare, foal and stallion paddocks, stable complex, and yards. The development also includes suitable facilities for the training and education of young stock and further dressage training of older horses.
The contour is flat to rolling, with save laneways between paddocks and a mixture of large, mature deciduous and native trees surrounding the entire property for added shelter, protection and privacy.

With our horses living on pasture throughout the year, due to the mild temperatures in New Zealand, all our paddocks are regularly cross-grazed with cattle and manure is harrowed for improved pasture management and parasite control. In addition, regular soil testing, fertiliser application, weed management and pH adjustment of soil ensures year-round growth of quality pasture for optimum development of young growing horses. In addition, all horses are supplemented on a regular basis with premixed grain/Lucerne feeds including mineral, vitamin and trace element supplements.

At Hanna PRE Stud we take pride in high quality maintenance and presentation of our horses and their environment. Stud inspection is welcome and can be arranged by appointment.
