How to make a ballet bun |

In this article we look at the art of making a ballet bun. Here Helen demonstrates the process on our little student, Gemma, who has fine straight hair and a fringe. |
1 . Comb the hair to remove knots then smooth gel over the hair and fringe. This will hold the fringe back from the face. |
2. Brush the hair smoothly into a ponytail. |
3. Tie the ponytail with an elastic hair tie.Don't make the mistake of making the ponytail too high or too low as in the small photos to the right. |
4. Divide the ponytail into three sections as shown. |
5. Tease (back-comb) the lower two sections with a comb. This adds volume to the bun. |
6. Roll the two lower sections of hair, as shown in the photo - one on each side and secure with bun clips. |
7. This is what it should look like with the lower sections of hair teased and rolled under. |
8. Fan out the top section of hair and fold over the other two sections, tucking ends under. This creates a smooth look. |
9. Place on two bun nets. Secure them with 12-16 bun clips placed around the edge. |
10. If it's a bit uneven, use the end of a comb to pull and poke it into shape. |
11. Lastly spray the whole hairdo with plenty of hairspray (until the dear wee thing is coughing and spluttering) and decorate with something pretty. |
