THE FORD OF BRUINEN

Frodo, having been stabbed by the sword of the Nazgul, was nearing death and needed the medicine of the Elf's to recover. However, the Nazgul were still in close pursuit of Frodo and the ring he carried. Arwen knew that once across the River Bruinen, the magic of her people would protect them from the Nazgul. And so she took Frodo on Asfoloth, her trusty white steed, and galloped down the Great East Road to the River Bruinen.

Once across the River Bruinen,
Arwen turned and drew her sword
challenging the Nazgul!

Speaking in her native tongue, Arwen called upon the magic
of her people to rise the waters of the
River Bruinen to rid her and Frodo of their pursuers!

Apparently, the Nazgul can't swim!
This scene was shot on the Arrow River and is just a short walk
from downtown Arrowtown. See ARROWTOWN HOLLIDAY HOUSE for more details on Arrowtown.
The actual scene was just around the bend from this spot but I couldn't get there without soaking my feet.
Interestingly, while filming here, there was heavy rains and a flash flood that washed away some valuable camera equipment and delayed filming for a couple of days! It is actually OK to drive your vehicle up the river to the actual site but that didn't seem appropriate to me.
