THE DAVAAR HOME STAY!
The
Davaar Home Stay is a functioning station {Kiwi for ranch} about 35 km outside
Te Anau. We were in Te Anau to see the Glow Worm Caves [see the other web
site] and to springboard to Milford Sound to experience the Fiords.
This place was wonderful! Recently refurbished and several scales above
our home in Timaru. The kids kept saying, "Why can't we live in a place
like this?" Why indeed! But, we're here for the life experience.
Heather had picked up some coffee back in Queenstown called Hummingbird.
Since we ran out of our Starbucks reserve, we went back to trying other brands.
Hummingbird turned out to be a very good dark bean with strong body. The
package didn't say much more about the bean and so that is all I know about it.
Like just about any other spot in New Zealand, the home is surrounded by fenced in sheep and has great views of the distant mountains! After our first night, I got up in the morning, started a fire in the stove to burn off the morning chill and fired up the espresso machine! The Hummingbird proved worthy and I'll always remember standing in the living room of Davaar Station enjoying a hot cup of java gazing out at the distant snowcapped Eyre Mountain Range! I must try and find out more about this little nugget labeled "Hummingbird!"
