ARROWTOWN HOLIDAY HOME
On our tour of the southern half of the south island, we managed to rent some homes instead of staying in Motels. Many people own "Holiday Homes" or second houses that they rent out as a way of deferring the cost. There are web sites with lists of various homes for rent. Most of the time, these accommodations are about the same cost as a motel room! Arrowtown is a quaint little town with a few shops and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. It is about 1/2 the size of Freeport and many scenes from Lord of The Rings were shot in the surrounding area! The home we rented was right downtown with magnificent views!
This trip, we took out own espresso machine with us. We figured with staying in homes, the kids could sleep in a bit while Heather and I enjoyed our morning coffee! Making our own saved us about $14 a day depending on whether the kids had coffee or not. This morning, we enjoyed a Starbucks espresso matured into a great cappuccino while sitting in the back yard and enjoying the morning sun.
The view from this backyard setting was stunning, particularly during the evening sunset and morning sunrise. As the suns beams hit the Crown Mountain Range, they progressively change from bright gold to yellow to the light brown of the desert landscape! This was truly a spectacular show to enjoy while sipping a cup of the black and sacred magic extract!
