Hi! I'm Warren, I own Rhino Records. On my web site you will find some interesting and rare music. For the last twenty years I've been trading, initially in tapes now also in CD's and video's. Alternative, Country, New Wave, Rockabilly, Punk, Psychedelic, Reggae & Dub, are to name but a few types of music I listen to. I started off while at Waimataitai School and later Timaru Boys High. I first went to work in a music store "Newmans" and then went on to explore the idea of developing a magic shop and did a four year stint of magic shows around South Canterbury. I was judged first in the under 21 section of the National Magic Competition in New Plymouth.

My sister Roseanne and I were part of two bands. Roseanne did the singing and I played bass guitar. We even played some of our own compositions.
The music shop began in 1989 in the City of Timaru, situated near the picturesque Caroline Bay. I had lots of support from my family, Dad basically built the shop and we all assisted with the painting and decorating, Mum and Roseanne helped in the shop a lot in the beginning.
I started with my own record collection, selling and trading. The first shop was in Variety Lane, when CD's and Video's arrived on the market I opened a seperate store, later combining the two.
60's R & B was a main focus, selling a lot of the Rolling Stones, Them, Pretty Things and other British R & B.

I am often asked how I came up with the name "Rhino". It all began just after I started at Timaru Boys High. I had been buying rare albums, 60's R & B through Rhino in the U.S.A. I dealt with Tom Brown who was head of the mail order department. In 1989 during a family holiday, we called into Rhino in Santa Monica, Los Angelos and met Tom and all at Rhino, They had no problem with me using the name Rhino and I did so with their blessing.
My interest in magic was taken over by the music as the shop began to evolve to what seemed to be a life of it's own, more of my time was needed to develop it. An opportunity arose to shift the business to a more central part of town in 1997, my present location. The shop has now taken on a personality I believe to be unequaled in Canterbury, evolving never stops!
I make regular trips to the U.S.A. & Australia to keep up with developements in the music industry. In 1997 I attended the big 25th Anniversary of the Country Music Festival at Tamworth then on to London then to the Great South By Southwest World Music Convention in Austin Texas. I have just recently returned from Texas after my third visit to Austin.
I hope you enjoy your visit to my Web Site.
