I met Phillip Ivo Clarke in early December 1995 after his 7000 n.m. Ocean Voyage to the South Pacific and return. I employed Phil as Sailing Master, advisor on Electronic and Navigational equipment, and bringing my vessel up to CAT 1 standard. Since then the vessel and Phil have completed a further 1000 nms. with Phil being on board full time. Phil has sailed all of Tasman Bay, 3 circumnavigations of Durville Island, he has navigated and sail through French Pass eight times, sailed the Marlborough Sounds and a two way passage of Cook Strait. I have been a fisherman for 25 years, fishing off the West Coast of New Zealand and I have a Master Coastal Fishing Ticket and a 2^nd Class Engineers Ticket. I have been impressed with Phil’s sailing skills, knowledge, seamanship and general character. Phil is a sober sailor placing the safety of the vessel and occupants as his first priority. During the last three months I am happy to advise that there has been no damage to the vessel, equipment or sails. I have no hesitation in recommending Phil to any prospective boat owner, employer, wishing to appoint someone to be in full control of their vessel or leave their vessel in the command of Phil. Phil’s capabilities extend to inshore and off shore passages and has excellent tutoring skills, in addition to Chef and galley skills. Phil was never sea sick during the time of his employment.
