In 1865, Lorenz and family left Littitz (now Littice - near Pilsen in Bohemia) with a group of 28 Bohemians and travelled by train to Hamburg, then by sea to Gravesend to join the Shaw Saville sailing vessel "Liverpool" which left 13 October 1865. They arrived in Auckland, NZ on 6 March 1866.
On their allocation of land (the Government was offering 40 acres per adult, plus 20 acres per child) they moved to Puhoi, north of Auckland.
