Learning Mandarin is of great importance in today's world so naturally learning this language, and in particular Standard Mandarin (Putonghua) is a key element in the current cross-cultural communication between New Zealand and it's burgeoning trade relationship with China.

It not only allows for dialogue in China's standard tongue but also gives an insight into their culture promoting increased understanding and mutual respect.  Similarly, with New Zealand's and in particular Auckland's growing Chinese population, understanding  Mandarin (Putonghua) is certainly an advantage for both business and social interaction.

Tutor Xiao Jing Guan, fluent in standard Mandarin (Beijing dialect) offers private one-on-one tuition to all, young and old.  While Xiao Jing can  introduce you to the language basics her main specialty is the advanced learner wanting to expand their day-to-day Mandarin language skills beyond the text book.

Xiao Jing is based in Auckland and takes a flexible approach to her work ensuring that considerable time and energy is invested in the creation of appropriate lessons which are tailored to meet the individual needs of her clients. Prior to course commencement, Jing will discuss with the learner to help them identify their objectives and clarify their needs; focusing on their individual strengths and weaknesses with the language.  Lessons are then developed and evolved using suitable related materials and modern media such as the internet, radio programmes, and local Chinese newspapers and other publications.  Each learner will be also be offered experiental-based learning, including day-today conversation in the family home environment, cooking, shopping trips etc.  - essentially whatever is required to help the learner achieve their goals.   While the lesson emphasis is primarily focused on day-to-day spoken language, assistance is of course also available for written form, both Hanyu Pinyin (romanisation system for Mandarin) and of course conventional simplified Chinese characters as well.
