NORTH CANTERBURY REGION
1. Definitions
The north Canterbury Fish & Game Region is divided into two
zones.
*"Eastern Zone"
: The area to the east of a line extending fron the white posts
on the Rakaia River (near the Coleridge Power Station ), to the
white post at Woodstock on the Waimakairiri River, to the Oxford-Glentui
road Bridge on the Ashley River, to the junction of the Hurunui
River with the South branch, to the junction of the Waiau and
Hope River; and excluding Lake Rubicon.
*"Western Zone" :
The area to the west of the eastern zone plus Lake Rubicon.
*"Flyfishing"
in the North Canterbury Region means to fish for sports fish with
fly rod and fly reel and fly line and artificial fly but with no
additional weight to facilitate casting.
2. Open Season

2.2 Winter Season
| Lake Coleridge,except within 200m of any inflowing stream | 1 Jun-30 Sep |

3. Closed Waters
3.1 No licence holder shall fish for sports fish in the following
waters :
Lake Marion
Taylors Drain to its confluence with the Wairarapa Stream.
The Avon River between the Armagh and Barbadoes Street bridges.
St Annes Lagoon near Cheviot.
The Kowai River and its tributaries including Hacketts Creek are
closed to salmon fishing from March 1 to September 30.
The tailrace of the Highbank Power Station.
Within 100 metrew of the outfall of any licenced fish farm.
4. Authorised Tackle
4.1 No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall:
4.1.1 Use any unsportsmanlike device or method.
4.1.2 Use any artificial fly having more than one hook or having
a multiple hook in Flyfishing Only Waters.
4.1.3. Use more than two hooks when fishing for salmon with
natural bait.
4.2 When playing a sports fish a gaff may be used to assist in
the landing of that fish.
5. Coarse Fishing Waters
5.1 Fishing for sports fish in the Kaiapoi Lakes, Rotokahatu Lake
and Monopolies Pond Coarse Fishing Areas is restricted to bait
fishing only with the bait assembly being restricted to a single
hook.
5.2 there shall be no restriction on the type of bait used in the
Kaiapoi Lakes, Rotokohatu Lake or Monopolies Pond Coarse Fishing
Areas. For the purposes of this rule the definition of "bait"
in the first schedule does not apply.
5.3 Rods without running line may be used in the Kaiapoi Lakes,
rotolohatu Lake or Monopolies Pond Coarse Fishing Areas.
6. Fly Fishing Only Waters

7. Bait Fishing Waters
7.1 Bait fishing for trout is permitted in the eastern zone only
7.2 Bait fishing for salmon is permitted in the Kaiapoi River
only.
8. Use of Boats
8.1 Fishing from voats which are being mechnically porpelled is
permitted in

8.2 Fishing ffom boats which are not being mechanically propelled
is permitted in:

| Loch Katrine |

8.3 Anglers fishing from boats which are being mechanically
propelled must stay at least 100 meters from any angler fishing
from the shore.
9. Daily Limit Bags
9.1 Catch and Release Only
All sports fish caught in the following waters must be released
immediately back into the waters from which they were taken with
as little injury as possible:

9.2 Rest of North Canterbury Fish & Game Region
No licence holder shall take, kill or be in possession of more
