The concept behind parasails originated as
a result of post-war parachute research by a Belgian designer, LeMoigne.
The first commercial parasail, based on LeMoigne's designs, was the Pioneer
Parasail, first produced in the early 1960s. A further development of this
was the highly successful Pioneer Para-Commander sport parachute, which
first appeared in 1964.
-
During the early 1970s a simplified parasail
- the very popular 'Waterbird', designed to meet the increasing market
for equipment in commercial use - originated in Britain, and this design
is the most commonly seen today. It would appear that many parasails produced
commercially are clones or copies of this design.
-
Paratechnics does not produce such copies!
-
This is partly to respect the rights of other
manufacturers, and partly to demonstrate confidence in our own design abilities.
-
We designed the 'Seahawk' from scratch in
1984, and have continued to develop the design, incorporating features
in the process which we feel offer the end user an excellent product.
-
Although the 'Seahawk' resembles other parasails
(it has to, or it wouldn't be a parasail!) there are significant features,
such as the size, location and configuration of the slots, the configuration
of the stabiliser panels, the method of attachment of the rigging lines,
and the overall construction method, which are unique to the 'Seahawk'
and Paratechnics.
-
Paratechnics is however prepared to customise
the 'Seahawk' design to a certain degree to meet the specific requirements
of operators, without changing the basic configuration.
-
Note that as a result of continuous development,
designs and specifications are liable to change without notice.
-
The appearance of contemporary 'Seahawk' parasails
in their various forms may differ from photographs, sketches and specifications
previously seen.
-
Some descriptions (such as '24 foot', '30
foot' etc) are for reference purposes, and may not reflect the precise
dimensions implied. The actual specification for the equipment concerned
should be consulted.
