An Introduction to 6-Count Swing

Swing (a derivative of Lindy Hop) is a truly original American dance. Developed in the late 1920's in the ballrooms of Harlem, the dance swept the nation, crossing social and racial lines with unprecedented popularity. Today's resurgence of this soulful dance has enriched the lives of young and old. This video will provide the basic tools needed to enjoy this social dance for years to come.
An Introduction to Six-Count Swing begins with the fundamental tools of leading and following. Without those skills, you cannot give or respond to the signals that result in great moves. After mastering just a few exercises in leading and following, we focus on the basic footwork of six-count swing. With that under our belts, we jump right into the basic steps and turns of swing, introducing 17 moves and combinations, each with clarity and plenty of time to practice.

Reviewer: Jeffrey Mertz from New York, NY
Let's just say that it's about time someone put together an instructional video you can actually follow and learn from and then replicate in a public environment with confidence. Guys, you're nervous for maybe 30 seconds...then watch out. Wait till you see the expression on your friends' faces when you walk THEIR dates out onto the dance floor and look so smooth.

An Introduction to 6-Count Swing is a simplified, easy to follow format on learning the basics of swing. The video is an excellent approach for those who are dancing inclined and perhaps more importantly, those who leave much to be desired (myself!). The enthusiasm of the instructors is great and the "live" music made it easy to watch over and over again. Thanks Julee and Chris!

Library Journal Magazine,
Reviewer: Editor: Bette-Lee Fox from New York
Yes, you do need more swing dance instruction in your library, especially if it's this two set, jam-packed with 32 moves, including everything from basic turns to swivels, kicks, and syncopated steps. There are steps for both single and triple-step swing, with very little overlap. Instructors Chris Reilly and Ginger de Paris demonstrate each step to music, followed by the "guy's and gal's gig," in which clear shots of footwork and body movement show the leader's and follower's patterns. Follow-up demos of each move are done to both slow and fast music, and a review sequence is shown after every five moves. Reilly does constant voice-over narration that describes the counts and leads. No rewinding is necessary, since each move gets repeated at least a dozen times. Both beginners and more advanced dancers will find something they can use here, whether it's the underarm turn, wrap-in, heel rocks, or the boogie woogie. Recommended!

This is an intermediate Lindy Hop video. All you need to know before this video is the Lindy Basic,
Lindy Circle & the Charleston.
They are average dancers but very good teachers. The only complaint is the guy looks at the camera when they are doing the demo's to music sometimes. The demo's are done to both slow & fast Swing music.
The teaching is slow & very detailed.
They go over each step several times & in different directions.
They give clear instruction for both the Men & Women's steps.
It is an easy to learn video.Well worth buying. Very good length 90 minutes.

Jitterbug / East Coast Swing.
The Master Swing teacher Frankie Manning regards Erin Stevens as one of the best Swing dancers he knows.
This is an excellent video with great dancers & teachers.
Fairly fast paced with plenty of steps
It teaches from the beginners steps but is better viewed after you have seen or learned by video before.

This is a really cheap video teaching traditional Swing & clearly showing the differences..
This is an absolute beginners Swing / Lindy Hop video.
It covers the beginners steps very clearly.
The video covers all the major styles of Swing dance.
It explains the differences & shows the basic steps for each style.
This video is really for older couples not for the young.
