Theme introductory music of God. Hello everybody this is the third programme of World Citizenship. I hope you are enjoying these programmes. I am Dr. Muhammad Nur Nabi. The World Citizenship Project is being developed with the hope that the NZ government and the United Nations will take it to the rest of the world on our behalf. In the last programme we included issues such as responses on the project of World Citizenship and human economy, an interview with Mr. Geoff Cavander of Geoff Cavander Production, Christchurch, New Zealand. I also played you two songs, Flowers and Humanism. Today we are including four issues of World Citizenship. They are Sovereignty, Races of Mankind, Controlling unwanted population and Refugees. In this programme we will also play songs. Lily is going to explain the rest of the programme. She is one of the trustees of MMN Trust. Thank you for listening this programme. Lily First I would like to talk you about SOVEREIGNTY Sovereignty may be designated as being both domestic and international: internal and international laws guide it. International laws are based upon the United Nations charter and other communities have internal laws. Citizenship of any country should mean that a citizen of that country is able to exercise their full legal rights. But in many countries it is obvious that the communication between the Government and its citizens is not always adequate. As a result of that disharmonious situation, the Government is denying the citizens of their legal rights by an overshadowing of the prejudices of religion, customs, ignorance, selfishness and inefficiency. This is a trend in many countries where the democracy uses it as a scapegoat. However, the problems of increased poverty due to over-population, and in some countries lack of management of the economy, domestic violence and illegal immigration, are an obvious concern to the sovereign states, the International Communities, and the United Nations agency. In the light of the above, the MNN Trust recommends that the mechanism of sovereignty in both the domestic and international arena be reviewed and amended. Now you can listen a song called Sky sung and composed by Goeff Cavander of Goeff Cavander Production and lyrics was written by Dr. Nabi. Play the song The RACES OF MANKIND is an important aspect for mankind to consider in terms of prosperity and endeavour. Various attempts have been made to group people as cranial form, colour group, or hair type. The effect of grouping on the society is immense as this feature is used as a way of selecting partners, defining sovereign states, and also in colonisation etc. If we look at the dark side of this grouping, it is obvious that racism is evident. The effect of racism is prevalent in society, which creates a disharmonious world with wars, prejudice, and separation. It is also used to fulfill the undesirable motivation of human’s ill effect, creating disharmonious society etc. This racism is also favoured by prejudice of religions, illiteracy, ignorance, false pride and so on. The world has to come a long away to overcome the above obstacles to the development of human society in terms of prosperity; that is, living in fairness. With the United Nations Charters, human rights are in action. However, society has to reach further to achieve its goals in peace and a harmonious caring society. It has been noted in history that various theories are available in terms of racial thinking and motivation. The variation in all the species is evident. But, our present-day knowledge, which we can compare with our phenotypical and/or genetical make-up in terms of variation, is similar to the other animals. We have to live in society. The world has become almost saturated with human population. To use our limited resources we must endeavour to plan carefully. Education is the key factor to be considered in accommodating us within our resources and creating a caring society. Now you can listen to the song Society sung and composed, added and written chorus by Nelson Warner of Sonic Boom Recording Studios. The lyrics were written by Dr. Nabi. Play the song To have proper planning of life CONTROLLING UNWANTED POPULATION is necessary- we must make sure that we have knowledge of the issues, which motivate people to have more children than they should have. Responsibility should be the key issue parents and Governments in terms of judging the number of children a family can sustain. Families should be encouraged to have children rather than individual people. People should be taught before they have children about the pros and cons of having children. The song we are playing now is Mountain, sung and composed by Goeff Cavander of Goeff Cavander Production. The lyrics were written by Dr.Nabi. Play the Song Monitoring of the world’s population by an issuing identity card of Promoting the World Citizenship is one of the objectives of the MNN trust. It is obvious that global activities require assessing the number of people, their Birth, Death, age etc. to plan in fulfilling their needs and requirements. In the rationale of the project we point out that we have to find the common ground for our endeavour for survival, prosperity and security. The books of religious doctrines and ideologies will have guidelines to follow. It is obvious there will be some common ground for humans. In this situation our education system is the place to cater and mould people, to teach the basic information on life and nature as a whole and prepare them for their lives. It has been also mentioned that religions and ideological guideline are based on limited observations. With the increased knowledge at this time those theories and interpretations of events become useless, and a shift of the practice of faith towards reality is takes place. Some countries of the world are already practicing multiculturalism and are shifting towards the truth. On this issue a general curriculum is practiced in some of the countries of the world, it is known as multiculturalism. The MNN Trust is promoting the implementation such curriculum in Primary and Secondary school as a mandatory subject. In terms of a practical view of this argument, the Social Studies curriculum currently used in our school system is an example of such curriculum. Similar approaches also exist in other countries such, as USA, Britain, Canada and Australia. In Bangladesh, a curriculum like this would be basic, it also would include human development studies. In human development concepts such as birth, marriage, death, disease, and effect of population on of quality of life would be added. With such a view, a proposal for developing curriculum for the United Nations is under consideration by the New Zealand government and the rest of the member countries. Please note that this approach is made by the MNN trust through the Word Citizenship Project. The World Citizenship songs are complementary to the Social Studies of the school system. You are listening to the voice of World Citizenship on PLAINS FM. 96.9. I am Lily. The next song is World Citizenship Anthem sung, composed, added and written chorus to it by Nelson Warner of Sonic Boom Recording Studios and I have written the lyrics. Play the song The MNN Trust has it’s own Internet homepage - the address is: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~nabi It can also found if you search via Explorer and type in "World Citizenship MNN Trust" I'll tell you the web site address again at the end of the programme. The issue of REFUGEES is considered by this trust and a recommendation has been made. Throughout history war, political upheaval and discrimination have often developed into threats to life and liberty against particular racial, religious and / or political groups, and have in many instances precipitated the flight of civilians across national borders to seek safety in other countries. They still have no guarantee of asylum there. The International Refugee Organisation, a specialist agency which was established in 1946 and terminated its activities in 1952, took over the refugee functions of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation administration which expired in 1947. The assembly in 1957 voted to continue the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for five years from January 1959. Now the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) is in Geneva. The events that lead to these people becoming refugees, and the process of trying to re-establish themselves in a sometimes totally foreign and socially hostile countries has an enormously adverse impact on human life in terms of social, physical and moral activities. It is usually a very traumatic and dehumanising way to be living and bringing up children. Palestinian refugees have already spent over 50 years trying to resolve their status, and the Afghan refugees in Pakistan are still unable to resolve theirs. The numbers of refugees involved are huge –for example according to worldwide refugee information in 1997, 13.6m were classified as Refugees and Asylum seekers worldwide. Because of the destablising effect in the refugees’ lives, the world is producing very inferior citizens, as it is never easy to settle in a new country and new habitat. In view of this, it is recommended that in order to resolve the causes of the refugees’ plight, the International Community / United Nations takes the lead with the parties involved, and takes steps to make it possible for people to co-exist in the same place rather than putting them into camps or forceful immigration to other countries. The New Zealand government is considering (developing this project) (the project development) to submit to the United Nations for their consideration. As part of the activities of this project we have produced 20 songs on two Albums (ten of each). The albums are called World Citizenship Music. Dr. Nabi has written the lyrics and they have been produced at Sonic Boom Recording Studios and Geoff Cavander Productions of Christchurch.
