Hello my name is Martin and I am from Auckland, New Zealand.

Auckland is a relatively good place in which to breed parrots and parakeets as we don't have extreme weather conditions here.

The main aviary or breeding flights

Gouldian finch aviary

Holding flights for young

The first photos show a bank of twelve flights each housing one pair of birds. There is another separate aviary used to house Gouldian finches. The aviaries face north, which I personally consider quite essential if you wish to have anything more than mediocre results during the breeding season. Having said that so boldly, I’ve seen people do very well without their aviaries facing north in the past. There is a walkway down the back, which allows access into any particular flight without the necessity of going through all the other flights and disturbing the other birds just to get there.

The next two photos show the Gouldian aviary. Two thirds of the front and part of the roof are covered with Perspex. This provides excellent protection from the wind and rain, while still allowing light to enter.

The last photo shows what will be a bank of holding aviaries. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough room to add a walkway to this set of aviaries, however, as there won’t be any breeding going on in there, hopefully I won’t need to get in and out all that often.
