description
This family (Carangidae) consists of large, silvery fish characterized by their long, sickle-shaped pectoral fins, dorsal fins that extend to a powerful, deeply forked tail. They are open water swimmers (pelagic fishes),but various species regularly visit reefs in small groups or large shoals in search of food.  They are amongst the most active predators on the reef and can be seen swimming past with a sudden burst of speed as they chase smaller, unwary reef fish.
