Rules For Kata/Form Competition

 Divisions:        

Juniors          

   Division 6  (10th to 4th kyu/kup)

      Division 5  (3rd kyu/kup to dan grades)

 

Intermediate           

      Division 4  (10th to 4th kyu/kup)

      Division 3  (3rd kyu/kup to dan grades)

 

Senior                 

      Division 2  (10th to 4th kyu/kup)

      Division 1  (3rd kyu/kup to dan grades)

 

There will be no separation on the basis of weight or sex while competing in the kata/forms competition.

 

Kata/Form Procedure:   

For the novice section judging (i.e. 6,4,2, there will be three dan-ranked judges, from as many different styles as possible.

The novice divisions will see two competitors on the floor at the same time and their kata/forms will be performed at the same time.

At the completion of the kata/forms the three judges will raise a flag in the direction of the winning kata/form, with the majority choice winning. The winner then goes on to the next round. This procedure continues until a single winner is found and 2nd and 3rd places are also found.

In this competitions, competitors may repeat a kata more than once, but not back to back in consecutive rounds.

 

      For the premier division judging (i.e. 5,3,1), there will be five dan-ranked judges, from as many different styles as possible.

In the premier divisions will see two competitors on the floor at the same time and their kata/forms will be performed individually.

At the completion of the second kata/form the five judges will raise a flag in the direction of the winning competitor, with the majority choice winning. The winner then goes on to the next round. This procedure continues until a winner and 2nd and 3rd place getters are found.

In this competition, no competitors may repeat a kata/form until semi-finals and finals, but once again, no kata/form will be done back to back. 

 

General Guideline For Judging:

Kata/forms may be traditional, or made up for the competition. They will all have a name. The judges will be awarding a winner based on excellence of technical performance, strength, spirit and the degree of difficulty of the form/kata.

RULES FOR THE WEAPONS KATA/FORM COMPETITION

 

Divisions:

   There will be only 2 divisions in the weapon competition; This will be 16 years and under and 17 years and over, there will be no separation of sexes or rank. In the first round we will do our best to pair up weapons of similar description. After that round the nature of the draw will determine which competitor and what weapon each competitor will come up against. 

 

Judging:

   Will be done by 5 black belts representing as many styles as possible. At the completion of the kata/forms the judges will raise their flag in the direction of whom they feel has performed the better of the two, with the majority choice winning.

 

General Guideline For Judging:

   Competitors will choose one weapon for the competition and they can perform the same kata/form in each round or they may choose to do a different kata/form with the same weapon.  Forms will be no longer than 90 seconds and will be judged on excellence of technique performance, focus and the degree of difficulty. This procedure will continue until we have our 3 place getters.

    If in any division the competitor numbers don’t fit into a draw, the organiser has the right to allow a competitor a bye into the next round
