About this website

I chose to name the site "Servalan's Flowers" after Servalan, a character from the BBC series "Blake's 7", played majestically by Jacqueline Pearce. There are several reasons for this.

Firstly, I was impressed by the convincing way in which Jackie Pearce played a villain for four entire years, making the evil Servalan both believable and larger than life. Secondly, the overall made-up look of the character reminded me of porcelain dolls, with impeccable skin and strong eyeshade. Thirdly, the doll-like effect was emphasised by Pearce's elegant poses and the imaginative costumes designed by Jude Hudson and Barbara Kidd.

In several episodes of the series, Servalan can be seen toying with a glass flower. It is one of her few 'tells', or perhaps weaknesses, and it provided me with a name for the site.
