Java Script and Java.

First, JavaScript and Java are NOT the same. This page uses Java Script to add features, like the What Browser and Mouse Over scripts showen on this page. Java is a write once run anywhere appliaton language developed by Sun, hated by Mirosoft who attempted to kill it with their own Windows only version (suprise, suprise!). Java is not used here. There is Java software for the AMiGA, but it is by no means complete.

About this Page

Feel free to look at the source HTML code for this page and make use of it (use view source or save as in your browser). I am adding comments to the source HTML I hope you find this page helpful :-). Please let me know if you make a site on or about your AMiGA and I will include a link to it. Most of the HTML and JavaScript should become plain to understand with a bit of experimenting.

Example JavaScripts

Note: Most of these functions do NOT work with the version of AWeb supplied witth AMiGA OS 3.5 and the DEMO version of IBrowse has only limited features. Everything works with the latest BETA version of Voyager (3.3.122)

This small script just checks what browser is accessing your site.

I am in the process of finding out if I can do anything clever with this script (like sending visitors to this site using windows to the microsoft hall of shame!). I think this is what some web sites use to keep non IE and Netscape browsers out or the really good sites that will redirect other browsers to a non-IE or Netscape enhanced version of their site. More on that below.....

A simple browser checking script.

A more involved browser checking script

Try changing the spoof as (pretend to be) setting of your browser then reload this page to see the change.

Note: just changing the "spoof as" option doesn't mean that a M$ or Netscape Enhanced sites features? will work, but it might stop the site from refusing to load at all if it finds you are using a non-standard browser, note that Microsoft and Netscape invent their own standard as it suits them! Both belong to W3C and aggree on standards, they just do not abide by them. Que big raspberry sound in both their directions! :-D

Note: there is no spoof as setting in IBrowse, IBrowse spoofs Netscape/Mozilla by default. Thanks to Tony McKee for testing this page with IBrowse 2.2 full version under OS3.9.

Mouse over script, clickng opens new window, unresizable.

Note: This window IS resizable on IBrowse 2.2 full version and the mouse over works (does not work with the demo version) thanks Tony!

Mouse over script, clicking opens new window, resizable.

A Javascript Example Page

My Workbench using Javascript can be found

Here!

Note This page is still being built, some links do not work as I have not written 'em yet!

I have tested only on the latest Voyager, please let E-Mail: me know if it works or not on other browsers, thanks!

Thanks again to Tony McKee for testing the Javascript Workbench page with IBrowse 2.2 full version under OS3.9.

This shows Workbench OS 3.5 and as I run my Workbench at a resoluton of 1024 by 768 so it will look best at 1024 by 768 (and I have forced the age to render at 1024 by 768!).

As my Javascript Workbench page makes extenive use of Javascript, imagemaps, pictures and backgrounds and uses .PNG format, make sure these options are enabled (and availible) in your browser. Font settings are for Tahoma font set as per link on MAIN page of site.
oooommmmmmmmmmmm........
