Clay Target Shooting for Disabled Shot Gunners
Clay Targets is a sport that can be done by most people with a
disability, there are only a few limitations that could affect a
person with a disability which could include: access to some club
rooms and the possibility of not being able to get around some
layouts because of wheelchair access problems.
If you are able to hold a shotgun to your shoulder in a safe manner,
then this sport is there for you to compete in and enjoy.

Grades
Shooting from a wheelchair is not a barrier when it comes to
competing. Disabled shooters can compete on an equal footing with
able bodied shooters, and with the use of a grading system shooters
compete in grades (AA, A, B, C) which helps keep competing fair.
Disciplines
There are a number of disciplines that can be shot:
*ISSF events, (Olympic Trap, Double Trap, Skeet,)
*Standard events, (Trap, Skeet, Ball Trap, Sporting,)
How it works
Most events are shot in lots of twenty-five targets.
Scores are made on broken targets only. (That is you only get points
when you break a clay target, also called a "clay bird")
Shot no bigger than size 7, is allowed when shooting trap and shot
no bigger than size 8, Shooting Skeet ("Shot" is the size of the
ammunition that is shot at a target, and comes in different sizes)
both with only 28gram loads. ("Loads" refers to how much ammunition
is shot at each target)
When shooting ISSF you may only use 24gram loads.
Equipment
Equipment needed to get started:
Shotgun (Trap or Skeet) and a shooting vest. You can also purchase
shotguns with interchangeable chokes so you can shoot trap, skeet
and sporting with the same gun.
Costs
Shotguns can vary in price, from $600 for a second hand gun in
reasonable condition to what ever you wish to spend.
Ammunition from $7.00 per box of 25 cartridges, Targets from $5.50
per 25.
Plus ground fees.
Some clubs have guns you can hire before deciding if you wish to
pursue the sport or not.
