Officer of the Dragoon Guards. In Act Two he abandons his uniform in favour of the exaggerated clothes of the contemporary poets of the day that the women of the village seem to worship.

One of Hilarion's friends. In Act Two they disguise themselves as female students to gain access to the woman's university, Castle Adamant.

Dr Daly, The Vicar of Ploverleigh


The Vicar of Ploverleigh. He is oblivious to the advances of Constance in Act One but ends up with her in Act Two.
"I shall quit the country at once - and bury my sorrow in the congenial gloom of a Colonial Bishopric."

A sailor and the foster brother of Robin Oakapple. He falls for the village maiden, Rose Maybud much to the disgust of Robin.

Duchess of Plaza-Toro


The wife of the Duke of Plaza-Toro. Rather penniless but holding grand hopes that they will reap the benefit of their daughter's marriage to the King of Barataria.
"Your Majesty is surely unaware that directly Your Majesty's father came before the public he was applied for over and over again"

The rather poor Grandee of Spain whose daughter was married in infancy to the wealthy King of Barataria.

The Duke, who is a courtier and distinctly a man of gentle birth and breeding, though for a time he may be down on his luck, would positively never do such a thing."
