Ashhurst Domain: 14 November 2010
Although there were many Red Kiwis away this weekend on other ventures, there was a still a hardy bunch of orienteers, including some new faces, to test out George’s courses at the Ashhurst Domain.
Thanks to Pat and Robyn for their help on the day.
Also a very big thank to the local ring-in Jenny Brown who helped set out the top part of the course, walked the Yellow Course with her grand-daughter, then went and collected the bottom controls and finally went down again to collect a control she had missed. Not only that, she managed to think like George and work out where he had put Control 4 on the Orange Course (not where it was mapped!). We’d love to see you at more events Jenny!
Laura and Anna Robertson from Hutt Valley club were visiting in the area and decided to join us for the morning, blitzing the orange Course, then Laura did the White Course as a memory map in under 6mins!
Tom Quelch was happy to let his boys try the Yellow Course on their own. He then found Liam looking for controls along the river track. Only problem was that the Yellow course didn’t go down to the bottom area!
I thought Christine and Jannetta had chosen Orienteering over Triathlon today, but no, they managed to fit in the Short Course Tri first before coming out to the Orienteering. Way to go!
Amelia Horne and Lydia Bamford finished the Yellow Course looking like they still needed a challenge so they were sent off to try the White Course as a memory map. They had to come back to check the map a few times but not a bad effort girls.
Overall an enjoyable day and good courses. Thanks George!
Next event:
For those of you who had Pukepuke penciled in for 28 November, it has now been postponed until 12 December. Keep checking Maptalk because when the approval was given to use the forest, it was on the proviso that there was no Fire Ban; we won’t know this until the week prior!
Summer Series:
There will be a 4 week Summer series again early next year, probably starting some time in February. These will all be score events based on the parks and reserves. They will be advertised in the Tribune, on the website and notified to schools.
Membership:
If you are still wondering about joining the Club, just do the figures. With significant savings for members and both a Summer and Spring series next year as well as all the forest events, it makes sense to join up. The membership form is on the website. Just click on ‘The Club’ in the left hand directory.
