My next visit was again in winter, a day paddle 2005. A calm crisp day, setting out from The Landing, heading along the southern shore for a spot of fishing. And enjoying clear views of the three peaks or vents of Mt Tarawera. The lake has a reputation for getting rough quickly, so I picked a settled day.
The condition of this small trout was amazing.
This is looking across the lake towards the outlet area from my lunch stop, on one of the white sand beaches.
The bigger trout had breeding on their minds at this time of year.
