Steve visit page 2

After Whakaipo Bay, Steve spent several days visiting one of our sisters who had just had bowel surgery. When he returned, we had one afternoon and a few hours of the next morning before he flew home. He was keen to see Boat Harbour and a glimpse of the Western Bay.

So that is where we went.

His verdict - he will have to return and camp there a few nights next time.

We were a bit short of time, only half an hour to fish Kawakawa Bay near the "harbour".

We caught two silvery trout each, but they were too small or too slim to keep. All good fighters though. It was a lively paddle home, especially the part going past the headland before turning into the shelter of Whangamata Bay. Any lumpier and I would not have been happy, it was on that margin between exhilarating and dodgy. And the SW wind wasn't very strong, I can see you need good weather for this trip.
