Location - Wyuna Bay Peninsula

Set on the Wyuna Bay Peninsula, which is a small bush covered peninsula on the west coast of the Coromandel region at about 3.5km from Coromandel town, our small holiday home is constructed in the "kiwi bach" tradition and provides magnificent sea views and comfortable accommodation in a wonderful coastal bush setting.

The Coromandel Region

The Coromandel Peninsula located east of the City of Auckland, is one of New Zealand's most scenic coastal regions.  The western side of the Peninsula borders the Hauraki Gulf in the north and the Firth of Thames in the south while the eastern side looks out to the Pacific Ocean.

The historic gold mining town of Coromandel is located on a harbour on the western side of the peninsula.  The small Wyuna Bay Peninsula forms the northern side of the harbour providing the sheltered Wyuna Bay on its harbour side and vistas out to the Hauraki Gulf on the more seaward side.  Coromandel Town has a character of its own being recognised as a hub for art, conservation, fishing and eco-tourism.  It provides the usual small town facilities plus 2 hotels and 4 or 5 good restaurants.

Beaches

The property runs down to a small pebble beach which is accessible via a steep unformed path through native bush.  Our little beach is an ideal spot for a bit of fishing, snorkelling or just soaking up the sun.  Swimming here is possible at all tides but some will find the stones a bit discouraging (reef shoes or similar are recommended).  More swimmer friendly beaches are available within walking distance or a short drive, at:

bulletWyuna Bay. 800m. A pretty tidal bay with very safe swimming.
bulletRuffins Bay.  A short walk along a private road from the end of Wyuna Bay this bay provides better swimming at in-between tides.
bulletLong Bay.  1.5km.  A nice sheltered swimming spot associated with the camping ground.
bulletTucks Bay. A more secluded little bay accessed through the Long Bay Camping Ground via a pleasant 10min coastal walking track.
bulletThe small quiet west coast bays such as Oamaru Bay, Papa Aroha,  Waitete Bay are within a short drive.
bulletThe spectacular east coast beaches with white sand and surf such as Whangapoua, Matarangi and Kuaotuna are 15 to 30 minutes away.
