Doreen the Duckling

Doreen was an ugly duckling,
Albert was a royal swan,
Doreen took one look at Albert
and her heart was gone

And as she gazed at her reflection
in the puddle in the rain,
from every angle and direction
the answer was the same
the answer was the same

She was plain as he was handsome,
forget the curtsey she'd rehearsed
So Doreen ran down to the river
and jumped in it head first [head first]

And on the swift green shining water
Albert drifted by quite near,
head beneath his wing a-dreaming
heading for the weir

She paddled wildly, wings aflapping
well below the danger sign,
her shouts above the roaring waters
woke him just in time,
and as she risked her life to save him
and he saw her heart was true
he asked her if she still was single
if so would he do

Alas she said I fear I'm ugly
plain at best if anything
and so he placed upon her finger
his gold signet ring
his gold signet ring

Then he said should you but treasure
all things pleasing to the eye
then of life you'll have no measure
and beauty will pass by

For beauty comes all shapes and sizes
all god's creatures great and small
and he cleverly devises
different faces for us all

As you see me now I'm handsome
someday I'll be old and fat
nothing's worth a princes' ransom
to marry just for that [for that]

to marry just for that
to marry
to marry just for that
