Randall Froude
menubar Randall Froude

Without question Randall Froude is one of New Zealand's most accomplished and successful artists - both creatively and commercially.

Originally trained at Elam, New Zealand's leading fine arts college, just after the Second World War, Froude spent most of his early working years in advertising and marketing design, but soon felt stifled by the commercial world. He started painting and achieved almost immediate success. not only did his work reveal dramatic talent, but his commercial background had given him an entrepreneurial flair.

Today he remains one of the art world's rarest - a fine artist who is also successful commercially in his own time. Froude has represented New Zealand art with commissioned works through international exhibitions at venues including:

  • Pantiles Art Gallery, Turnbridge Wells, England
  • The New York Design Show;
  • The IMF Gallery, Washington DC;
  • The Australian Bicentennial Promotion in Melbourne, Australia;
  • Fine Art Promotion in Tokyo, Japan.
Such international acclaim has also generated over $11 million in sales of Froude originals and prints throughout the world.

Randall has been painting for more than 50 years and is well known for the variety and technical quality of his work and for his teaching workshops. Resident at Kimbell since 1994, seeking tranquil and inspirational surroundings, he describes his move from the bustle of the North Island has providential. His art extends from atmospheric watercolours, through natural history showing exquisite detail, to the grand canvas in the romatic 18th and 19th Century tradition. He qualifies the later by describing them as traditional impressionist. Some of his vibrant paintings are in the French impressionist style, and he has been seriously labelled as the Monet of the Pacific. His forte however is the New Zealand landscape and his work displays a special feel for the mountains and the forest.

It is possible to meet Randall, for his personal studio is at his home adjacent to the Silverstream Gallery at Kimbell.
