New Zealand

Most visitors to my website are from countries other than my own. Some have asked for more information about New Zealand. So here is a page with some info about the country that I'm lucky enough to live in, and some New Zealand web page links.

New Zealand lies to the south west of Australia, with the Tasman Sea on the western side and the Pacific Ocean on the east coasts.

We live in a small town called Carterton. You can see from the map above that we are not far from Wellington, which is the capital of New Zealand.

Carterton is in the Wairarapa district. The area around Carterton is mostly flat with hills surrounding us, and it is mainly rural.

The weather in New Zealand is pretty good compared to other countries. In the heat of summer it is usually around the 27-35degrees C mark and in winter at night it can go down to -3degrees C or so (and colder still the further south you go), but the days usually range about 10 - 20degreesC.

New Zealand is quite a young country. The Maori's came to NZ around 900 years ago, and then it was discovered by the Europeans in the mid 1800's. So most of our oldest buildings are only about 120 - 150 years old.

New Zealand is well known for our rugby team, the All Blacks, which are the world's best. We are also hosting the American's Cup race this year (yachting). And more importantly, New Zealand is the first country to see the new millennium! We'll also be the first place to watch for any effects of y2k.

It is a great place to visit. There is a little bit of everything here. Warm sunny beaches, stunning alps with skiing available in winter, desert plains, rolling hills, great fishing rivers and lakes, geothermal activity and much more! It's also great if your into bungy jumping, white water rafting, and other action sports.
