To Kath's Korner Crafts Page

With four children I don't get much time anymore for crafts but at least once a week I like to sit down and relax, and do some cross stitching or knitting.

I like to think it keeps me sane and that it is the only thing in my house that stays the same when I've done it (unlike houseworkJ).

Currently I am cross stitching the Millennium Sampler by StitchWorld for my oldest son Jonathon.  It really suits him, he's into learning about other countries and explorers.  Just before midnight on New Years eve 1999, I got him to put the first stitch on, in a slightly different colour so he could see it.    Already he is proudly pointing 'his' stitch out to anyone whose interested!  It's only taking me nearly three years to do so far.

Then I'll do the Celestial Navigation picture in the same booklet for my 5 year old son Alex.  This picture reminds me of the flying ship in Peter Pan!  One of Alex's favourite movies.

I finally finished Paula Vaughan's Good Neighbours!  I am sooo pleased with it!  This was the picture that Alex, when he was only 2 years old, scribbed on the back of it with a pen.  I'm too scared to wash it now as the ink might run.  But I love this picture!  When Jonathon saw it completed, he said it reminds him of the Anne of Green Gables movie, which I am thrilled about because the Anne of Green Gables series of books are some of my favourite books.

Unfortunately I'll have to save some money to have it properly framed.  It is a big picture, so I can't buy a frame from a shop and put it in myself.  And after all the work (2 and a half years!) I would love to have it properly framed like they have it on the brochure.

I haven't done any knitting for a while now.  It's very much a winter thing for me.  It gets way to hot here in summer and my hands end up sweating.  The latest half-done project is a cardigan for baby Ethan.  I'm doing the size for a one year old, so it is possible that it might be done in time.  8:)  Grace's cardigan still isn't finished, so I'll have to have another girl so all my work won't be wasted.  LOL.

I've also tried lace knitting, with some success. I really like it on towels.  One day when my children are a bit older I would love to have some hanging in my bathroom, they really look special. But in the meantime, they have made really good presents.

Cross Stitch Links

Fox Needle Craft  - Based in Palmerston North,  New Zealand.  About 4 times a year they send out a wonderful catalog in the mail.  I usually sit down to read it with a hot drink and drool over the pages. There's plenty to chose from, the subject matter is quite broad.  Besides cross stitch things, they also sell embroidery, knitting patterns and other craft supplies.

Annabella's Cross Stitch Corner - This site has a floss conversion chart, floss check list, stitchers tales (lol), Australian and New Zealand stitching links, and more cross stitch links! A big favourite of mine.

Cross Stitcher's Heaven - Terry has a great cross-stitching site, one of my favourites. There's message boards, links to chat rooms, a penpal list, a list of different clubs to join over the net. And tons of cross-stitch links. Even a free pattern to print.

Aion - This is a great British site that has a good e-mail pals page. It also lists British designers, magazines and homepages of cross stitchers.

Cameo Roze's Stitchers Studio - This site has a lot in it. There's articles of interest to stitchers, reports from stitching shows, a directory of designers online, shops, cross stitch current events, and of course more links!

About.com Cross Stitch Pages - This is good site to visit if you are a beginner. It has everything about cross stitch explained.  There's also message boards, chats, and newsletters to keep you in touch with other stitchers.

Knitting Links

The Yarn Basket - This site has help for the beginner knitter, patterns for dishclothes, links to free patterns, and links to other knitting sites.

About.com knitting pages - Full of information, boards, free patterns....

As you can see I'm rather short on knitting links. If you know of any good sites that I can put on this page please email me by clicking on the letterbox.
