Kath's Korner Library

I've always wanted to be a librarian, but since I'm at home with my five children I figure that being an online librarian is the only way to go right now.  I've always been a bookworm, but since we started homeschooling five years ago I've become very passionate about good books.  I've got to the stage now where my children don't go to the library very often, because of the amount of rubbishy books there.  No Goosebumps or Sweet Valley High trash for us!  So we have our own little library at home.  Not as big as some of my online friends libraries, but filled with good 'living' books.  (Living books can be defined as written by authors who are passionate about their writing and can impart something worthwhile learning about in an interesting and lively manner.  Most authors are passionate about their writing of course, writing is hardly an easy way to make money, but how many authors fufil the second part?)

Fortunately there are many good books (and most books published before the 1950's can be classed as good) that are now becoming available online.  This is wonderful news for those of us who have limited space in our home for books!  Even the libraries cannot be relied upon for having these good books in stock, often they are busy throwing them out!  Now I'll be the first to admit that snuggling up on the couch with a book is much preferable to sitting in front of the computer, or reading from a print-out, but this is better than not being able to read these wonderful books at all.

If you do decide to print out a text, copy and paste the text onto a word document.  Then you can change the font and text size to something that is a bit easier to read.  I put it into a word document even if I'm reading at the computer, as then I can delete the pages I've read as I go along.  No need for bookmarks then.  8:)  I've also discovered recently that I can put my feet up on something under the computer desk, and knit at the same time as reading.

Rules of Kath's Korner Library

1) Noise is allowed.  Discussion is encouraged!  I hope to have a message board here real soon and I would love to see your thoughts on various books!!!
2) Reading should be done while eating chocolate.  The two just go together.  Well, I guess chocolate goes with everything.  LOL.
3)  Drinking is permissible, but watch out for your keyboard!
4)  If you find a good living book online, or any good book links, let me know.  My email address is down the bottom of just about every webpage.
5)  No fines!  However don't blame me if you can't keep up reading all the good books you find, that just goes with being a bookworm.  8:)

There, that wasn't so bad, was it?  Now onto the set-up.  Just as in a real library, my online library is divided into sections as well.

Children's Books - in alphabetical order.  At this stage I haven't seperated fiction and non-fiction.

Adult's Books - Four different sections; fiction, non-fiction, homeschooling, and classics.

Favourite Book Links - Learn more about your favourite books, and wonderful articles to read for bookworms.  Children's first, then scroll down for adult links.

Book resources - Links to other online libraries and the Reference Section.

Literature Studies - Unit studies, lesson plans, ideas and information on a book.  (Work in progress)

My Book Journal - Wanna sneak a look at what I've been reading?  Maybe pick up some ideas for new books to read?  Have a look here.

Have fun reading!
