NOTE: These .ISP files are for the Message Suite for EPOC machines (Psion
Series 5, Geofox Geofox-One). If you
have a Psion Series 3a or a Series 3c, then you need the .PRV files for
PsiMail Internet. You'll find these on my .PRV files
page.
An ISP file is a template file for a specific internet service provider
(ISP). It is used to easily add a new service provider to the Internet
control of your Series 5. Once added, the ISP file is no longer needed
and can be deleted if desired.
ISP-File installation
Copy the ISP file to any folder, eg the root folder on your C disk
(C:\). It does not matter where you copy it, but make sure you remember
the location becasue you'll need it below.
Adding a new 'Internet service'
From the System screen, open the Control panel from the toolbar
(or select it from the Tools menu).
Double-tap the Internet icon (or highlight it and press Enter).
Tap New (or press Ctrl-N) to create a new Internet service setting.
Change the Based upon line to display Settings from file.
On the Name line select the name of the ISP file that you installed
above. Note that the default disk and folder is C:\, if you installed
the ISP file somewhere other than C:\ then you will have to change
the Disk and Folder lines accordingly.
Tap OK (or press Enter)
Now you have added a new internet service. The next step is to ensure that
at the very least the Standard phone number is correct for your
location. You may also wish to check all other items, I have prepared some
notes on this, you'll find them on my Series 5 Internet
Services page.
If you have any problems at all trying to connect, then please read
the Problems Connecting? section of my Series
5 Internet Services page
Proven and tested (by myself or by other people)
Ordered by country with global providers listed first.
Global
AOL - You cannot use the Message Suite with AOL because "America
Online does not use a PPP connection. AOL uses a proprietary connection
which is a combination between PPP and SLIP. In order to access the
America Online service, you will need to connect with the AOL software."

CompuServe Interactive (CSI) - A CompuServe ISP file is provided
with the English and German Message Suite v1.10 zip file. Install
either the UK-ISP.SIS,
US-ISP.SIS
or GE-ISP.SIS
file, then open the Internet control in the Control panel
and change the Standard phone number to your desired CompuServe
access number anywhere in the world. You can also change the Name
to reflect your changes if you wish.
Read How to Setup your Palmtop for use with CompuServe
for exact details on the settings required.
If you only wish to use the CompuServe internet service, then you can
delete all of the other internet services that were also installed with
the SIS file.
Better ISP Files for CompuServe: I have also made some CompuServe ISP files to handle situations not
covered by the ISP files supplied with the Message Suite.
All of my CompuServe ISP files connect with 8 data bits, no parity,
1 stop bit (8N1), which works in all situations. The scripts
supplied by Psion use 7 data bits, even parity, 1 stop bit (7E1)
which does not work in all situations (e.g. does not work with SH888).
Note: None of the following files have any phone numbers entered, you
must add the appropriate local number for your location. The three-letter
abbreviations (CPS, EQT, FTT, etc) are the same as those used by CompuServe
when you GO PHONES.
CompuServe (CPS) Csi-CPS.ISP (v1.1, 1317 bytes)
- an alternative to the ISP files supplied by Psion. This file defines
an 8/N connection as required by many mobile phones (e.g. Ericcsson SH888).
The login script is written for CompuServe Direct (CPS) numbers only (and
hence also the PlusNet (PLS) network in Switzerland), and the script is
quicker than that written by Psion.
CompuServe (Auto) Csi-Auto.ISP - (v1.2, 2440
bytes) automatically detects and logs on via any of the following networks...
o CompuServe Direct network (CPS)
o Equant (previously Scitor) global supplementary
network (EQT) See this EPOC Equant Data file from
14th July 1998 for a list of all their global access numbers
o France Telecom Transpac supplementary network
(FTT)
This file is very useful for international travellers.
CompuServe (FTT) Csi-FTT.ISP. For use with the
France Telecom Transpac (FTT) supplementary network in France. Contains
the nationwide FTT number +33 8 36061619.
IBM Global NetIBMnet.ISP (64 bytes). Only
for numbers which support PPP. No phone numbers have been entered, you
must enter your local phone number(s) before you try to connect.
Microsoft Network (MSN)MSN.ISP (24 bytes).
No phone numbers have been entered, you must enter your local phone number(s)
before you try to connect.

access number anywhere in the world. You can also change the Name
to reflect your changes if you wish.

delete all of the other internet services that were also installed with
the SIS file.

Complete, but waiting for confirmation
If these don't work for you, then please read Problems?
above.
Can't find an ISP file you need?
If you can't find the provider you require, then you can always take an
ISP file as a template and edit it with any text editor (an ISP file is
just a text file). Refer to the Message Suite User Guide appendix
for a description of the Series 5 internet services scripting language,
and refer also to my page on the Format of Series
5 Message Suite .ISP files.
Please send me the file when you have it working, and I'll add it to
this list.
