Author: Jaelle

Act Two (of Three)

Rating: PG

Disclaimer: All Clamp's, all the time. Only borrowing.

Pairings: Mostly implied, Subaru/Seishirou and Karen/Seiichirou and yes I know he's married. Also hints of Kamui/Fuuma and Kamui/Keiichi and dammit it's a musical, so really there's very little of anything.

Spoilers: For most of X the manga (up to last Japanese issue, somewhere around April 2003).

Warnings: Filk alert!

See Act One for Author's Notes.

*Curtains open*

HOKUTO:
Kamui didn't want to take sides in the upcoming battle, and there were others who were likewise conflicted for one reason or another. Many of the Dragons were known to each other, and did not wish to do each other harm.

KUSANAGI SHIYUU and YUZURIHA NEKOI enter.

YUZURIHA:
I can't believe we're on opposite sides!

[Come What May - Moulin Rouge – David Baerwald]

KUSANAGI:
Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss
Every day I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change, winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

YUZURIHA:
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you

BOTH:
And there's no mountain too high
No river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather
And stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Oh, come what may,
Oh! Come what may,
I will love you,
Until my dying day!

*As the music fades they exit the stage together, with Puppy Inuki running around them in circles.*

HOKUTO:
Others were... less well-inclined towards each other.

*Silence*

HOKUTO:
Hey! Somebody send my fat-headed brother and his idiotic lover out here!

*SUBARU SUMERAGI and SEISHIROU SAKURAZUKA saunter onto the stage. SEISHIROU is smirking, SUBARU is sulking and they are both smoking.*

SUBARU:
Why does Arashi get out of singing but not me?

SEISHIROU:
Your sister made you do it.

HOKUTO:
It's faster and easier than trying to explain both of your long and confused histories and screwed up lives, all of which could have been avoided had Seishirou just taken my brother into his room and...

SUBARU:
HOKUTO!!!

*HOKUTO and SEISHIROU smirk*

SEISHIROU:
Shall I go first?

SUBARU:
I should be so lucky.

SEISHIROU:
Be careful what you wish for. So you want to know who I am and why I do what I do? Very well, I'll tell you.

[to the tune of Dentist - Little Shop of Horrors – Alan Menken and Howard Ashman]

SEISHIROU:
When I was younger, just a cute little kid
My mama noticed funny things I did
Like killing puppies with a sharp gleaming knife,
I'd poison guppies and shorten their lives,
I'd find a pussycat and bash in its head!
That's when my mama said

FUUMA, YUUTO, KUSANAGI:
What did she say?

SEISHIROU:
She said, "My boy, I think someday
You'll find a way to make your natural tendencies pay

Sadistic assassin!
You have a talent for causing things pain
Sadistic assassin!
People will pay you to be inhumane!

Your temperament's wrong for the priesthood
And teaching would suit you still less
Sadistic assassin!
You'll be a success

*SEISHIROU grabs SUBARU and drags him behind the Tree*

FUUMA, YUUTO, KUSANAGI:
There he is, Sakurazukamori!
Watch him feed that big Tree,
Oh, my god!
He's an assassin and he'll never ever be any good
Who wants their death done by the Marquis de Sade?

SUBARU:
Oh that hurts!
Wait, I'm not numb!

SEISHIROU:
Oh, shut up. Open wide. Here I come!

*The entire cast boggles slightly at this and SUBARU flees away from the Tree and hides behind his sister as SEISHIROU follows him.*

SEISHIROU:
Sadistic assassin!
And I enjoy the career that I picked
Sadistic assassin!
And I get off on the pain I inflict

SUBARU:
I knew it!

SEISHIROU:
My murdering ways are thematic,
And people still tell me I'm sociopathic!

FUUMA, YUUTO, KUSANAGI:
Assassin!

SEISHIROU:
And though it may cause my clients distress
Somewhere, somewhere in heaven above me,
I know, I know that my mama's proud of me
'Cause I'm an assassin - and a success!
Scream loud!

FUUMA, YUUTO, KUSANAGI:
Ahhhh...

SEISHIROU:
Scream LOUD!

FUUMA, YUUTO, KUSANAGI:
Ahhhhh!!

SEISHIROU:
Now DIE!

*SEISHIROU smirks as the song ends.*

SEISHIROU:
Your turn Subaru-kun. Let it all out. Tell us how you _feel_.

SUBARU:
You sick... You want to know how I feel? FINE!

[Poison – Alice Cooper]

Your cruel device
your blood, like ice
One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill...

I wanna love you but I better not touch (don’t touch)
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much (too much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You’re poison, running through my veins
Poison
I don’t wanna play these games

Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I’m caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace, on sweat...

I hear you calling and it’s needles and pins (and pins)
I wanna hurt you just to hear you screaming my name
Don’t wanna touch you but you’re under my skin (deep in)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You’re poison, running through my veins
Poison
I don’t wanna break these chains
Poison...

Poison
I don’t wanna break these chains
Poison (Poi-son...)

I wanna love you but I better not touch (don’t touch)
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much (too much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
Yeah...
Well I don’t wanna break these chains
Poison
Runnin’ deep inside my veins
Burnin’ deep inside my brain
Poison
and I don’t wanna break these chains

*SUBARU finishes, exhausted.*

SUBARU:
How’s THAT?

SEISHIROU:
I think that’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me.

SUBARU:
You son of a...

HOKUTO: (hastily)
Getting back to the story! As I said, some were friendly, some were not. And some of them were just plain angsty.

*The set shimmers into a dreamscape of a darkened room. KAKYOU lies there, as the music begins.*

[I Dreamed a Dream - Les Miserables – Claude-Michel Schonberg, Alan Boublil, Herbert Kretzmer, Jean-Marc Natel, Trevor Nunn, John Caird]

KAKYOU:
There was a time when people were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
And they turn your dream to shame

She slept a summer by my side
She filled my days with endless wonder
She took my childhood in her stride
But she was gone when winter came

And still I dream she'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

HOKUTO:
Poor Kakyou. He was certainly one of the torn, who did not really want to fight, and he was not alone in this. One other person in particular did not want to hurt anyone. But unfortunately, that turned out not to be up to him.

*FUUMA, KAMUI and KOTORI enter*

HOKUTO:
As Kamui had made his choice, so the other Kamui took his own destiny into his hands.

*FUUMA clutches his head and sinks to the floor. The other two cluster around him nervously, but he suddenly stands and backhands KAMUI across the stage.*

FUUMA:
There’s a new Kamui in town!

KAMUI:
No, it can’t be...

FUUMA:
But it is!

[to the tune of Angel of the Morning – Taylor Chip]

FUUMA:
There'll be strings to bind your hands
And my love will bind your heart
And there's no need to take a stand
For it was I who chose to start
I see no need to take me home
I'm old enough to face the dawn

Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
I'll just kill my sis before I leave you, baby
Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
Then slowly turn away from me

Maybe the sun's light will be dim
And it won't matter anyhow
If morning's echo says we've sinned
Well, it was what I wanted now
And if we're the victims of the night
I won't be blinded by light

Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
I'll just kill my sis before I leave you, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
Then slowly turn away
I won't beg you to stay with me
Through the tears of the day
Of the years, baby baby baby
Just call me angel of the morning ANGEL
I'll just kill my sis before I leave you, BABY!

KAMUI:
No!

FUUMA:
YES!

*FUUMA kills KOTORI brutally and artistically*

KAMUI:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! FUUMA! KOTORI!!

*The curtain closes on KAMUI and KOTORI’s body, and FUUMA steps forward.*

FUUMA:
Well, that was refreshing.

KANOE:
Well done.

FUUMA:
And who might you be?

KANOE:
Oh, you can call me anything you want. And I'm here for you.

FUUMA:
I thought you wanted the other one.

KANOE:
I've changed my mind.

[You're the One that I Want – Grease Soundtrack – John Farrar, Bill Oakes, Louis St Louis, Barry Gibb]

KANOE:
I got chills they're multiplying
And I'm losing control
Cause the power you're supplying
It's Electrifying!

FUUMA:
You better shape up cause I need a team
And my heart is set on you
You better shape up, you better understand
To my heart I must be true

BOTH:
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
The one that I need oh yes indeed

FUUMA:
If you're filled with affection
You're too shy to convey
Meditate in my direction
Feel your way

KANOE:
I better shape up, cause you need a team (I need a team)
Who can keep you satisfied
I better shape up, if I'm gonna prove (you better prove)
That my faith is justified
Are you sure? Yes I'm sure down deep inside

BOTH:
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
The one that I need oh yes indeed

You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
You're the one that I want (You are the one I want) ho ho ho honey
The one that I need oh yes indeed

*FUUMA and KANOE dance offstage, cackling madly together. The curtains pull open again to show KAMUI mourning over KOTORI. SORATA enters.*

SORATA:
He’s lost inside his mind. We have to get him out.

SUBARU:
Maybe it’s better this way.

SORATA:
How can this be better?

SUBARU:
It could be worse.

SORATA:
I don’t accept that.

SUBARU:
Fine. I’ll do what I can then. Stay out of my way.

*The lights dim as SUBARU enters KAMUI’s mind.*

SUBARU:
I know how you feel.

KAMUI:
How can you?

SUBARU:
Because I too thought I knew someone once, and he lied to me.

KAMUI:
I just want to leave it all behind.

SUBARU:
I know, but if you do that, you’ll never see him again. Is that what you want?

[to the tune of I Know Him So Well – Chess Soundtrack - Rice, Andersson & Ulvaeus]

SUBARU:
Nothing is so good it lasts eternally
Perfect situations must go wrong
But this has never yet prevented me
Wanting far too much for far too long.

Looking back I could have played it differently
Won a few more moments who can tell
But it took time to understand the man
Now at least I know I know him well

SUBARU and (KAMUI):
Wasn't it good?
(Oh so good)
Wasn't he fine?
(Oh so fine)
Isn't it madness he can't be mine?
But in the end he needs a little bit
More than me, more, it's destiny
(He has his fantasies and power)
I know him so well!

SUBARU:
No one in your life is with you constantly
No one is completely on your side
And though I move my world to be with him
Still the gap between us is too wide

SUBARU and (KAMUI):
Looking back I could have played it differently
(Looking back I could have played things some other way)
Learned about the man before I fell
(I was just a little careless, maybe)
But I was ever so much younger then

BOTH:
Now at least I know I know him well

KAMUI and (SUBARU):
Wasn't it good?
(Oh so good)
Wasn't he fine?
(Oh so fine)

BOTH:
Isn't it madness he can't be mine?

SUBARU:
Didn't I know
How it would go
If I knew from the start
Why am I falling apart?

KAMUI:
Wasn't it good?
Wasn't he fine?
Isn't it madness
He can't be mine?
But in the end he needs a little bit
More than me, more, it's destiny

SUBARU:
He has his fantasies and power

KAMUI:
I know him so well

SUBARU:
It took time to understand him

BOTH:
I know him so well

*The song ends and KAMUI and FUUMA meet each other's gazes in a long, lingering moment.*

End of Act 2

Additional Note:

I know I could never really see Subaru singing Poison the way Alice Cooper does, but I kind of like the idea of him hissing the words out quietly. *snuggles Subaru* Come away with me honey, I'll take care of you!
