The Ford Capri Car Club of New Zealand was formed in Auckland in September 1978 by a group of Capri owners who wanted to enjoy using their cars together, mainly for social events and outings.
Since then, membership has grown and the club has become well established in other parts of the country. there are now area branches and members in Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty, Waikato, New Plymouth, the Manawatu, the South Island and Auckland.
A bimonthly magazine, "Capri Capers", is sent to all financial members. The Magazine contains details of coming events, technical articles, track records, photos & personality profiles of the members, and handy hints. All members are encouraged to attend other center's events as well as those in their own area.
A club tradition has been established in the form of an Annual National Weekend held in Taupo each Queen's Birthday Weekend, this has proved to be the focal point of the year with members from all areas making the journey to show off their cars.
The A.G.M. weekend is full of events for our members to participate in, like The Concours D'Elegance (this event is not to be missed, in the past years the number of cars being presented for judging has been outstanding and more and more are entered every year), The A.G.M. (of course), A Mystery Tour or Point to Point, Prize giving (for the years events), and we book the local race track in Taupo for a Sprint Meeting and Fun Day.
The Capri Car Clubs A.G.M. is also held during this weekend, this allows members to put forward their own views and their area's views on matters affecting the administration of the club.
Technical advice is available to all members through the magazine or from experienced members of each branch, they will also advise on, and where possible, help trace hard-to-find parts for all models. Club members with similar cars to your own often assist with any problems you may have.
For a small charge, members may advertise car wants and sales in the club magazine, everyone is encouraged to contribute articles or short items of interest to the magazine.
Our membership numbers currently total 112 as of July 2005 and we are always on the look out for new members, locally, nationally and internationally. We Currently have 2 Overseas members but more are always welcome. For your membership of NZ$35.00 per annum you will receive our bimonthly magazine postage paid for and any other relevant information along with any help that is needed concerning your Capri.
