about w.w.o.o.f.
W.W.O.O.F. stands for 'Willing Workers on Organic Farms'. W.W.O.O.F. allows volunteers to stay on organic
farms and help out with various projects in exchange for accommodation and food. The scheme has been
running in New Zealand since 1974, and there are currently about 600 N.Z. farms taking part. Check out the
W.W.O.O.F. website for more information - it has a list of participating farms, as well as an application form.
wwoofing at farm hill
We have been taking part in the WWOOF programme for
several years, and have met dozens of wonderful
people from around the world. Wwoofers at Farm Hill undertake a variety of
tasks, depending on their
abilities - and the weather. Common chores include helping with housework, gardening,
harvesting, and
feeding the animals. (Due to Gaye's disability, we currently need more help around the house and - as we
have
reduced our stock levels - less help on the farm.)
More about Wwoofing at Farm Hill:
Wwoofers typically work about four hours a day. (This is flexible - for example,
you may choose to
work extra hours one day and take the next day off to go sight-seeing.)
In exchange for your work, you receive accommodation (your own room, toilet and
bathroom within
our comfortable family home) and food (breakfast, lunch and dinner - and of course you are welcome
to help yourself to snacks, drinks, etc.) We are not vegetarians, but vegetarians are certainly welcome.
We encourage Wwoofers to make themselves at home - watch TV, check your email,
listen to music,
or just relax. Farm Hill has a very peaceful atmosphere, with beautiful views of Mt. Pirongia and the
surrounding countryside. Grass grows faster in the Waikato than anywhere else on earth, so it's the
perfect place to just sit back and watch it grow!
We can pick you up from the bus/train station when you arrive, and drop you
off there when you leave.
We are also happy to give you rides into the city when possible.
Farm Hill is perfect for Wwoofers who want to 'get away from it all', relax, and
experience living and
working on a small farm. We are interested in becoming as self-sufficient as possible, and do not use
artificial fertilizers or sprays. However, those who are serious about improving their knowledge of
organic growing techniques may prefer a larger commercial farm.
Smokers are welcome, providing they are willing to smoke outside.
